Labour Call for Action on Crime whist Tories offer Cuts

Labour has called for more Action on Crime in Ealing and reiterated calls for Tory Mayor Boris Johnson to deliver more police officers to our understaffed police force.

Tory council leader Jason Stacey insisted that swift action would be taken in December 2008 over increasing the number of police officers in the Borough.

But Stacey went quiet when Tory Mayor Boris Johnson announced a year later, last month that he would be scrapping as many as 500 Metropolitan Police Officers across London, with no promise that Ealing’s understaffed force will be spared Tory cuts.

Under Labour there are now 16,000 more police officers and 16,000 PCSOs since 1997 and this years figures show crime down across the UK, despite the drum beating of Tories that there would be a recession linked crime wave.

Cllr Dheer, Ealing Labour’s Community Safety spokesperson said “Jason Stacey recently tried to cover up Tory incompetence on crime by taking a pop at our hard working officers. The truth is that it is a Tory Mayor and a Tory Council that will preside over real cuts to police numbers. How does Stacey expect our Police Force to enforce the law if his Party won’t provide the police officers to do it? We need a guarantee that Boris’s cuts won’t affect our already stretched officers.”

Announcing one of Labour’s key pledges for the next election, Labour Leader Cllr Julian Bell stated “Under a Labour Council, we will deliver more uniformed officers onto the streets of Ealing and shift CCTV priorities away from enforcing parking fines and towards fighting crime”
