Conservative Leader attacks local charities

12/1/12

Ealing Conservative’s leader Cllr David Millican launched an attack on local charities on Tuesday evening saying they were talking “political drivel”. When responding to a Cabinet report on funding for a new general advice service in the borough Cllr Millican launched his bizarre attack on the Ealing Community Network, which is an umbrella organisation for Ealing community and voluntary groups. When questioned by Labour members Cllr Millican repeated his claims that the network was talking “drivel”.

This comes after Cllr Millican used his New Years message to say “That’s the true spirit for 2012: volunteering to make our society better. Let’s thank those volunteers and wish them well for 2012.”

Ealing Community Network was responding to a report on the Council’s new Generalist advice service. They made a number of observations on policies of the current Tory-led Government including that legal aid cuts would be “disastrous” and that welfare and housing benefit cuts will impact “the most vulnerable people in Ealing.”

At the same meeting Cllr Ranjit Dheer Labour’s Cabinet member for community services described Ealing Community Network as “an organisation we are happy to work with and that we value”.
