They are:

1. More genuinely affordable homes

We will build more than 2,500 new genuinely affordable homes at council, social and London Living rents over the next four years

2. Defending the Borough against a Tory hard Brexit

We will protect jobs and secure investment to our borough, double the number of registered London Living Wage employers and increase the number of apprenticeships for young people by 750.

3. Save Our Hospitals

We will renew the campaign to save our hospitals from Tory cuts, including a blue light ambulance service at Ealing & Charing Cross hospitals.

4. Tackle knife crime & antisocial behaviour

We will campaign against Tory cuts to the Met, and for more police officers on our streets. We will work to stop the rise in violent crime, tackle knife crime, drug dealing and reduce street drinking.

5. Boost Recycling & Deliver a Cleaner Borough

We will boost recycling rates to 60% and crack down even harder on fly tipping and littering, including increasing fines. We will bring our bin collection and street cleaning teams back under Council control.

6. Protecting you from Tory austerity

After a decade of freezing your council tax, we will keep it as low as possible. We will continue to protect the most vulnerable, and fight Tory cuts to our schools and care services.

Cllr Julian Bell, Leader of Ealing Council said:

“We know that genuinely affordable homes, anxiety about hard Brexit and our struggling hospitals are all top priorities for local residents and that is why we will address them head on.

We are also keenly aware that we need to do more to tackle crime across the Borough and that we should have bin collection and street sweeping services that are second to none and accountable to you.

These pledges will form the backbone of the Labour manifesto based on the needs of our residents -; for the NHS and against a Tory hard Brexit.”

Cllr Yvonne Johnson, Labour’s Cabinet member for Finance said:

“Local government across the country is in crisis owing to cuts by the Tory government. It is predicted that one in four of all local authorities will be approaching bankruptcy by 2020.

In Ealing we have massive and unprecedented financial pressures. The Tory government will have cut nearly 65% of our revenue budget by 2020 and because of these cuts and increasing demand for our services, we will need to have made £265 million in cuts by the same year.

It is in this context that Ealing Labour is setting out a bold and ambitious plan to protect our borough from the worst excesses of Tory austerity.”

Cllr Peter Mason, Cabinet Member for Prosperity and Transformation, and Manifesto Coordinator said:

“Labour is very clear about what we want to achieve for Ealing. We want a Borough where people have access to genuinely affordable homes. Where they have a decent living income. Where they can enjoy a healthy life, in thriving high streets and neighbourhoods.

We continue to face big financial pressures, but with the creative ideas that will be in our manifesto, we will continue to make sure Ealing is one of the best places to live and work in London.”
