Ealing Hospital

Ealing Labour are calling for the government to urgently put in place common sense regulations and financial support for care homes to limit the spread of Covid-19.

National statistics show that while hospitals are seeing admissions and deaths from Covid-19 reduce, deaths in care homes are rising and some homes are continuing to admit new patients in the midst of an outbreak.

Care homes are at the forefront of fighting this virus and Ealing Council has been doing everything possible to make sure care home residents are kept safe and staff are supported. However, councils have no powers to stop private care homes from admitting new residents. The government needs to step in now to stop more people from dying.

Councillors Julian Bell, Labour Leader of Ealing Council, and Binda Rai, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Services, have written to the secretary of state calling for the government to take urgent action – you can see the full letter below.
