The best decisions are the ones taken together, in the spirit of co-operation and collaboration for our communities. We will work hand in hand with people and neighbourhoods to identify what needs to be better, design the solution together, and get consent for change from the public.
Many of the challenges ahead, be it the pandemic, climate crisis, or inequality are daunting. They will require tough decisions and dedicated action to overcome. We will always tell the truth, engage with purpose and maturity, and be accountable to the public for the decisions we take. We know we are temporary custodians of our Borough, and we take that responsibility seriously.
We know there are huge imbalances of power and wealth within our communities. We will always remain focused on empowering and amplifying the voices of the most vulnerable people within our communities. By bringing people and communities together, we know we can find spaces in which everyone can make the necessary compromises in order for us to live together in a just and equal society.
Despite what can often feel like overwhelming challenges, are focused on changing our communities for the better. We will always remain hopeful and ambitious for our communities, focused on fostering a sense of civic pride, community ownership of local neighbourhoods, and empowering those who need power the most.
This manifesto is focused on changing the lives of the residents of our seven towns for the better. We will focus on the things that matter to you, and the difference we can make when we are in power. It is rooted in what we can deliver in our Borough, and also sets out what needs to change in London and nationally.
Despite the challenges we face, we won’t settle for simply managing the decline of local government. We will continually explore new ideas not just to protect public services, but also to make them better. Everything that we have proposed is costed and deliverable within our power as a local council and our budget.
